Beautiful building lots of flaws

The design of the press is beautiful, however was clearly done in a rush, had a range of leaks, broken job due to being put in wrong. The building management and maintenance property management is awful, the are impossible to get a hold of and when you finally do they just pass it off to someone else constantly. They also make a lot of false promises and nothing ever gets done.

Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:

Super close to Manchester City Centre without being smack bang in the middle of it all. No Parking, little traffic.

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

They haven’t, they pass us onto someone else constantly and they ignore messages from tenants, and lie about not hearing from tenants, the main doors have been broken on and off since I moved in 1.5 years ago!

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

How awful the building managers would be and how little they cared about the buildings and doing their jobs.

Good location, clean building

Jenny (Tenant)

Dec 2021

The building is always clean and tidy. I regularly see the cleaner sweeping or hoovering. There are some problems with bin rotation meaning it is hard to access empty bins. It was also unclear where post is stored initially and there are still issues with the delivery of parcels. Building maintenance is good and they have came to view / resolve any reported issues. I have had some problems with building management as they have never answered the phone when I call.

Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:

The area is really nice and residential. It is quiet and feels safe. There is a co-op 2 minutes away and only a 5 minute walk away from restaurants and bars. We are close to Victoria Station and a 15 minute walk to Piccadilly Station. There are plenty of buses. There is on street parking availability for 2 hours or external private parking.

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

Building management have not directly responded to any issues as they have not responded to phone calls or emails. Getting a replacement fob for the building was a significant challenge.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

Communication about how building management works, how to use the post room or where to go to with queries.

The building itself is of amazing quality

Niamh (Tenant)

Dec 2021

The building itself is of amazing quality and any friends and family that visited are extremely impressed by the design/ the foyer/exposed brick. The downsides of the development are the lack of parking, the illegitimate use of properties for short stay rentals, the lack of recycling and the inactive and difficult to reach building manager

Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:

NOMA is a great area - 5 minutes walk to town, close to the The Redbank Project and surrounded by great puns (Marble Arch). Parking availability is hit and miss and no free parking. Our building doesn’t recycle except glass and cardboard which is a huge drawback.

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

It was difficult to get in contact with the Buidling manager. I enquired about the lack of recycling and was told this service was reduced due to COVID-19.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

Our apartment came furnished but without blinds/curtains. This is an extra expense which should have been accounted for from the start

Great location, beautiful building, stunning apartments.

The Press is a beautifully designed building converted from an old Printing press factory. The interior is given a very modern style incorporated into the brickwork of the old building seamlessly, to provide a unique bit of character. The flats are also very well styled and built with the likes of beautiful wooden beams and pipe work, to give it that homely, and modern feeling and a to keep some personality in the building. The facilities are OK, with a digi-locked bike shed and parcel room, and double access to the building from either end. However there isn’t much more than that. The intercom system is a modern style using an App on your smartphone to connect to either entrance via video and audio. Although, this has been quite faulty for myself, often not ringing, disconnecting, or not working as intended.

Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:

The local area is fairly decent as it is very close to the centre of Manchester (eg arndale, NQ, Picadilly), there is a good selection of independent bars and restaurants. The Angel meadow park is only a 30 second walk out the front door and although it is a small park, it is one of very few in the city centre and is a nice place to walk. Parking however, is very difficult and for a resident, we are having to pay extra for a private parking space nearby to guarantee a spot and not pay the extreme costs of the bay parking.

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

The building management can be contacted through WhatsApp or email, although neither method seems to quick to respond as I’ve been waiting a while to have an issue resolved without a reply yet.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

I’m not certain on this now, however, when I moved in, the access to internet was almost entirely limited to the built in system the building uses ‘Internetty’. Which is usually very good, although have had a few problems with over the year or so I have lived here. The building is also in an awkward spot for mobile data coverage.

Property management is the worst

Leandro B (Tenant)

Verified Resident

Dec 2021

Property management is terrible, one of the worst services I've ever seen. We've been stolen our bike store three times. The building used to be clean and tidy, now it is an open air garbage bin. Common area carpets are dusty with stains, floors dirty. Bin store is a disaster . Doors never work properly, intercom doesn't work for a long time (more than a month). There are illegal Airbnb in the building that makes illegal parties and the participants scream, shout and hit doors at 4am. Property management is the worst

Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:

The local area is great, it is 10 minutes walk to any place in the city centre, also it has good connection with public transport

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

Always delayed responses to my problems. I had a problem with my door oven and they took more than a month to solve it.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

neighbour is ok, close to everything but I won't recommend this place

Manager response

Hi Leandro I am so sorry to hear that you don't feel we have supported you through this. As a management team, we care about our facilities and residents and last week held a call with all Press residents to listen to your frustrations and help support the site to make it feel more secure for you. As a result of the call, we have agreed an action plan which will be send over to all residents shortly. We are pleased that the intercom issue has now been resolved, we did react to this immediately and the contractor had to attend several times to fact find, eventually he was able to resolve this and appreciate this took a few weeks. I would appreciate if you could send an email in relation to the dusty carpets so we can look into this, Wendy our housekeeper is on site daily and receives some really positive feedback from residents. We will of course look into the bin situation as from the pictures, this is not how the bin store should look, I will ensure we review this immediately. We hope you can enjoy living at press and that we can overcome your frustrations. We would be happy to speak with you personally on any of the above issues. Please feel free to get in touch.
