Leicester

Leicester is an increasingly popular option for property hunters seeking homes in the Midlands. House prices were enjoying a boom prior to the uncertainties of 2020 and are expected to bounce back thanks to the city’s strong economy. Historically connected to the textiles industry, retailers like Next, Asos and New Look have major sites in the city. Firms like KPMG, HSBC and British Gas also have offices there. Walker’s Crisps is also based in Leicester, operating the world’s largest crisp factory!

Areas to consider

The centre of Leicester is undergoing significant redevelopment. Many new developments are providing high quality housing within easy reach of the amenities and transport options the centre provides.

The Wullcomb rental development by Way of Life was rated by residents as one of the top 3 BTR (Build to Rent) developments in the UK in 2020. This highly popular building took third place in the 2020 HomeViews BTR awards with an impressive overall score of 4.88 out of 5. However, new BTR developments are currently in construction in Leicester, and will seek to challenge The Wullcomb for its crown!

Outside central Leicester there are a number of very popular suburbs and commuter towns that attract large numbers of buyers and tenants. Syston is a commuter town 3 miles outside Leicester that offers suburban living with easy transport connections into the city and also to Nottingham, Lincoln and Loughborough.

Glenfield, Oadby and Braunstone are also very popular locations. These peripheral towns and villages offer excellent value, attractive properties and plenty of green spaces.

Reviews

History buffs like me will appreciate that cultural attractions are round the corner: Leicester Cathedral, the King Richard lll museum and the Jewry Wall.

The Wullcomb is unlike anything else in Leicester. Located in the heart of the city centre, local amenities from one of the largest shopping centres (Highcross Shopping Centre) in the midlands at your doorstep, to fine dining and essential public transport, there’s nothing which can rival this level of luxury and quality.

Great location with very nice atmosphere and amazing people. Made so many new friends thanks to the wonderful people who actually live here as well. There is a lot of very nice bars around as the property is located in the cultural quarters. And there are many shops near by.

Lovely local area with good access to the town centre. Reliable local transport and main line to London

Beautiful design with a mix of styles and houses. Good amount of space between houses with lots of room for parking and good sized gardens. Nice open spaces and close to the canal. Neighbours are all friendly and it’s a lovely place to live. No traffic noise

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

When harvest road will be opened fully to have access from both sides of town

What is the best feature of your home:

The large kitchen dining space with large windows with lots of natural light

The shops are in the main town but this will be rectified when the small shops area is built. The site is very quiet and peaceful, with lots of country walks available.

Please review your development:

I was originally attracted to this site and to Davidsons by the use of varied designs of houses and the provision of quality road and path space. The ‘snag list’ items have been dealt with efficiently and without any time delays plus personally we have only had a handful of items that needed rectifying.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

Always ask your developer to paint the walls white as it makes the house look so much brighter than magnolia!!

What is the best feature of your home:

The outlook, provision of space and position of the house

Great location – better management of paths and open spaces

We love living here – the balance between being close to countryside and being close to “town” is perfect for us. Local shops and facilities are lacking but should improve when the development progresses.
The much delayed opening of Harvest Road will provide positives and negatives – we await to see the true impact

Please review your development:

The design of the development is great and the “facilities” are probably focused around open spaces which is good for us
The management of those open spaces and paths and roads is very disappointing especially as building work in our area finished over 12 months ago

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

How long some aspects of the development would take to complete – like the opening of Harvest Road and completion of paths

What is the best feature of your home:

Location, location, location – and the potential of the open spaces if managed better

A fantastic town centre only a short walk away with various amenities and a beautiful park with a great cafe and children’s play area. Very dog friendly with lots of countryside walks on the doorstep. Fantastic community in a peaceful environment. Brilliant neighbours.

Please review your development:

We love the design of the houses and the space between plots. We have a very private garden due to our position and the outlook is beautiful. Lots of open green space with beautiful views. Cannot fault our experience living on the site, have had issues which have all been resolved within a reasonable timeframe. No complaints on our time living here.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

Look at the open spaces as they are great for walks.

What is the best feature of your home:

We love the character added to a new build property.
