Aberdeenshire

Set within easy reach of the Cairngorms National Park, the city of Aberdeen was named as the best place to live and work in Scotland in a 2019 report by Demos-PwC. Alongside the stunning local scenery, another of the reasons for this was the low property prices relative to earnings. This offers residents an excellent standard of living – driven in large part by the oil and gas industry. The lively harbour city is also known as the ‘Granite City’ or ‘Silver City’ thanks to its historic granite buildings.

The location is great as it walking distance from the beach and city centre. It is also quiet enough to avoid the noisy city night life. There are multiple grocery shops and restaurants near by along with sport facilities. There is also a bus stop right outside the development.

Kepplestone area is ideal for getting into town, for nipping to Asda and hopping onto Anderson drive. There is a local co op in the area with a post office, alongside a hairdressers and a coffee shop. There is Johnston Gardens, where you can have a cup of tea and cake.

One of the best places to live in Aberdeen

The location is great overall, in the city centre with lots of shops (e.g. tesco, sainsburys) and pubs within 5 minutes of the building. The train station and Union Square (shopping centre) are within 10-15 minutes of walk, very easily accessible. Many bus stops are also located within 5-10 minutes.
Cheaper fast food options are also available a street down e.g. Mc Donald’s and Taco Bell.
Lidl is a slightly longer 15-20 minutes walk away through George Street, but still very accessible.
One thing I found frustrating was the lack of parking opportunities, in the area and at the point, but this is an issue affecting all of Aberdeen.

Please review your development:

The building is managed exceptionally well. The facilities available are great as well. The gym has a lot of things available, although experienced gym-goers may find it lacking. The home working hub is great, although some people decide to use it as their home office for online meetings which can be a bit annoying for those looking for a quiet space to work.
The rooms/flats are well designed and look good, however there are a few things everyone should consider.
The chest of drawers are way too small to effectively store anything, from clothing to personal items. The chest of drawers are more of a decorative item than effective storage space. The cupboards in the kitchen are very high up and also only have one shelf, thus there is a lot of unused space, however this can be remedied by shelf inserts like the ones in IKEA. Lastly the kitchen stow is very small, two hobs may be enough, in theory, but you cannot comfortably place two medium sized pots on if, so really you are left to use one or the other most of the time. One thing i do like though, which saves space, is the oven having a microwave function, saving lots of space. The fridge (unless you live in a one bed flat) is extremely small, so expect regular trips to the grocery store (at least the stores are nearby).
I really like the bathroom design in the studios, delux and super delux. It is an easy to clean bathroom, and I especially love the mirror cabinet which probably lots of storage. The only downside to the bathroom is you cannot dry your hair, as only one plug is available which is the type for shavers.

The staff are very friendly and helpful, Phil especially has been nothing but lovely during my whole stay, always helpful with tips and solutions about issues related to The Point but also the area and Aberdeen.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

The size of the fridge, the stove and kitchen storage is a bit harder to manage for those who like to cook regularly.
I wish I started using the shared facilities earlier, such as the club room, tv room, gym and home working hub.
The laundry room is great, but circuit laundry is extremely pricey, so I wish I was prepared for that.

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

Yes. The building management is always super quick in their response. Once the light in my bathroom went out and it was fixed within a day. Another bathroom related issue was fixed within hours of me reporting.

Hello Flora, thank you for sharing your feedback which we really appreciate. The Point was designed specifically for convenient city-centre living, and the apartments are quite compact, however as you mentioned we do have some amazing communal amenities like the Club Room, Garden Room, TV lounges and the gym which residents can use whenever they like, and I’m really pleased you’ve been enjoying them. Thank you also for your kind words about Phil and the rest of the team, who are always on hand to help if you need them.

Evaluating design, comfort and functionality

Review Date Jul 2024

Very convenient for all above I cannot complain. I personally feel they help tenants to ease payments when they have stayed with them for over a year as those paying lump some once.

Please review your development:

Very good size for individuals and very smart to maintain.
It would be best we have individual laundry machines as there is infectious diseases these days and one would like to use their own machine.Rest remains very convenient. Recent renovation removed a lot of noise protection and I wish some one in 12 th floor stops dragging chairs all day and night.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

That the buildings are just very smart, convenient and easy access to all sites in town.
It has very friendly and helpful workers who go beyond a mile to help.

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

Very helpful and fast response noted. I only wish you had a parking space for your residence that would have been very handy.

Great flat in central Aberdeen!

Great place to stay; close to town; great bus stops; corner shop and store nearby – within walking distance; area is well maintained both outside and in.
Issues – lack of parking and lack of storage options.

Please review your development:

Great flat in central Aberdeen! Large spacious flats completed to a good standard – I just wish there was more storage inside. The communal area is cleaned weekly and outdoor area is also well maintained with any litter being collected and grass cut often. Sometimes the communal bin areas can be very unkempt, but the association are on top of this and quick to send out letters when this becomes the case. Repairs are completed promptly.
It is unfortunate regarding the parking situation. I wish they had allocated a space for every flat instead of leaving it a “free for all” as it can be very difficult to park.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

Parking – I wish we’d known how terrible it would be to try and find a space. If I’m going to be home anytime after 5.30pm I dread it knowing I’ll unlikely get a space.

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

All repairs logged are resolved within a timely manner.
