The area has great transport links being less than five minutes’ drive to the nearest junction of the M5 giving it access to the wider West Midlands and also within easy reach of the A41. This development also benefits from excellent public transport links with a good bus service to all the local centres and Birmingham City Centre as well as three train / tram stops all within ½ mile of the site with regular and direct access to Birmingham and Wolverhampton.

5 years in Galton Lock newly built Development

The development has been built to a high standard. The houses are beautiful and reasonable capacious. The internal finishing is great and that was one of the things we loved about our house. The warranty of 10 year is also great and Countryside properties have worked hard to answer our call out in timely manner. I have 4 bedroom house and its value has rocketed within just few years. More people come to ask to buy houses in the development and everybody seems happy with their own house. The only bad thing is the management fees which we pay every year to a company that does not do any ground work. They come may be once or twice a year to do some great area work and they disappear for the rest of the year, nonetheless we pay then hefty 9000£ a year in total if not more divided by 88 houses.

Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:

Friendly area . although little industrialised, it is becoming more and more residential. We have very close train station and we have tram station. Not great bis routes though. We are close to M5 which is great as it connect you to most places effectively.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

The canal view is beautiful and quite. Nice feature.

All the houses built look good. The houses that I have seen are of good quality. There are a some houses which have faced issues like unresolved leaks and faulty alarms. We pay for management of the development but for what we get as service it’s definitely leaves a lot to be desired.

Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:

Galton Lock development is conveniently located to get into Birmingham city with great connections available on tram, train and buses. High street is 15 minutes walk. Best thing is the evening strolls along the canal. There has been a few incidents of unsociable behaviour which we as a community are also vigilant about.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

Nothing really as all the details were provided in a very open manner.

What is the best feature of your home:

The best feature of our house is the sky light in the kitchen and master bedroom. It makes the rooms very airy and full of light when the sun is out. We have enjoyed the rain drops falling on the windows as well.

Nice exterior design and layout but usual house builder niggles

Overall nicely designed exterior housing and plan. However some rushed job was undertaken on garden surfacing. We are also having to pay for upkeep of the surrounding area which is extortionate giving the small areas to upkeep and we don't directly benefit as residents.

Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:

Good: Design of the exterior of the house. Bad: Garden isn't finished up to standards as it was rushed Garden surfaces left uneven Kitchen layout could be improved Unnecessary and high upkeep cost per month added even though we as resident don't benefit from it.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

We are also having to pay for upkeep which is extortionate giving the small areas to upkeep and we don't directly benefit as residents.

What is the best feature of your home:

Exterior and layout of the rooms. Although kitchen could have been made bigger and places in the garden side of the house.

Great place to live

Well designed houses with good facilities. There are no facilities on the development such as children’s play areas but the road system is easy to navigate. There is management in place to manage drains etc but not had much to do with it. When there was an issue with the house countryside quickly came out and fixed it. There is broadband installed directly into all of the houses so good connection.

Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:

Every house has its own driveway so parking is not a problem. There are local rail links within walking distance with easy access to the city centre. The canal is close by which is great for a walk/ exercise and again it’s cycling/ walking distance to Brindley Place

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

Seen the location the house was going to be built in person rather than just on a map.

What is the best feature of your home:

Nicely laid out and spacious kitchen. Lots of storage cupboards and under stairs cupboard built into the kitchen where the washing machine can be housed keeping it out of the way.
