Looks nice but cowboy fitout and water pressure problems

M Cardwell (Tenant)

Aug 2023

Looks nice but cowboy fitout and water pressure problems Sublets and criminal activity Lift is always broken Doors are broken into Carpets have black burn marks on from cigarettes Large gaps under doors can hear everyone's conversation Loud night clubs and antisocial behaviour problems

Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:

Looks nice from outside and in but different when living there. Would be good to connect to other residents with same issues.

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

Poorly and unprofessionally Staff are told just to let themselves in your home

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

That it is let out to drug dealers, that there are problems with antisocial behaviour and tenants are not professionals, gateway to Council housing overspill.

Modern arpatment ideal for young couples and commuters

Chloe JS (Tenant)

Aug 2022

The design of the apartment is modern and useful, it has everything you would need in an apartment. We also have car parking and bike facilities available. The apartments are well insulated and soundproof as well as even on the first floor the street noise does not carry into the rooms.

Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:

We are a 3-minute walk from the train station which is extremely convenient to commute. There are local grocery stores around the corner from us as well as the high street is 10 minutes up the road.

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

We have not had many issues to contact the landlords about but all communications have been clear and followed up quickly

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

the cellphone reception inside the building is not great but Brentwoods signal in general is really bad. however, our wifi is amazing and can even be used outside of the building

I'm happy with my stay.

The property management is fairly responsive, normally they would reply your email enquiry within 2 working days. The only downside of my apartment layout is that the bed is right next to the entrance door, otherwise, the rest is perfect. Nice view, fully furnished with quality home appliances when I move in.

Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:

It's convenient. Just 1 min walk to the train station, but you can barely notice the noise when trains passing by. Having lots of bars/pubs, convenience stores within 5 mins. Can get to High Street in less than 10 mins. People in the area seems to be nice.

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

I still remember the bathroom radiator has leakage on the first week I moved in, and the landlord quickly arranged a plumber to come up and fixed the issue in a week.

Has had a couple of issues in the past with breaks but promptly solved. New modern and just the right size. Is very well insulated which is great for the winter saving money on heating, becomes costly and uncomfortable in the summer. The fire alarms are very sensitive so can be heard frequently but other noises are minimal and outside is near silent as long as the windows are closed

Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:

Right by the train station and an okay walking distance into the town. Great if you don’t have a car as town isn’t far and has just enough and if you want to go further the buses and trains are close by.

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

They have been quick to respond and act, and understanding as the why I have raised an issue with them

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

I would have liked to have known more about the electric provider who have been the source of most issues and that the place can get so hot during the summer

Expensive Hellhole

Building facilities are often damaged and broken. The elevator was out for more than a week (7 floor building). The back door didn't lock with a damaged mechanism for 2 weeks. The elevator is broken in some form at least once every two weeks. The cover for the lights inside has been broken and hasn't been replaced for 6 months. The building has 10 flats per floor but only one tiny elevator and only one entrance which means it gets more traffic than the A1. The floors are constantly covered in refuse and stains from leaking refuse bags. The elevator is stained from top to bottom, I think someone emptied themselves into it at one point. The carpets in the hallways and stairwell are stained with black mold. The building is cleaned only once a week and immediately dirty the next day. I've once seen an entire kebab tray dumped out upside down in the staircase for a week. Since the refuse bins are not secured, there are non-tenants dumping their garbage there as well (I'm not talking a candy wrapper, but people pulling up in cars to dispose of entire rubbish bags or other refuse). The apartments themselves look nice but are shoddily constructed For example my inbuilt bed's drawers can not open because the heating element is in the way. The gaps at the bottom of the flat doors is so large i can see peoples shoe-soles when they walk past. The doors are also not soundproofed so i can hear everyone clear as day. I had a boiler malfunction only a week after moving in which took 3 weeks to resolve despite pleading (cold showers for 3 weeks!). The fire alarms are also placed directly above the oven which starts false alarms at least once a week in every flat (I'm not exaggerating) The claim of "excellent security... with CCTV" is untrue as there is no permanent staff in the building to enforce security, and CCTV seems to not be used to enforce safety or react to antisocial or criminal behavior even when reported to management. Management in general seems unresponsive unless they need something (like a new contract). I've even overheard them complain about tenants complaints (thank you not soundproofed door!). The only positive I can say is that the room looks clean, modern and nice and the Fiberoptic Internet is nice too.

Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:

While Ewing House is close to the train station, it is also just next to a bar and club. This might be a positive for some but the reality is that drunk or drugged people just hang around this building, sometimes having fights or taking a leak against the building. The club also tends to empty thousands of bottles into their rubbish bins past midnight causing an incredible ruckus. There is also a large element of drug consumption and selling around the building with cars idling waiting for their "customers". The building is also permanently permeated by the smell of cannabis and cigarettes (and also the mold from all the carpet-stains). The tenants in Ewing House are a mixed bag, while 60% seem to live quiet lives, there are at least 4 flats that have parties daily with alcohol and drug consumption being high. It is also situated next to a construction(?) company which constantly does work in their yard, even on Saturdays, noise pollution is high. The tenants do not dispose of rubbish or other refuse properly and just throw it vaguely near the bins. Wind and animals get at the refuse and strew it everywhere. Getting to the car park is like wading through a landfill with the same smell permeating the area. I've also seen rubbish and rubbish bags just strewn in the staircase. In general from living here about a year I've seen more and more normal respectable people move out and be replaced with anti-social people, no wonder, who would want to live here except for the ones that HAVE TO.

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

Building management is painfully slow. I had no hot water for 3 weeks and after a while they stopped responding to any requests or issues so I've given up communicating with them.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

If I had known what kind of people live here and what the situation with drug consumption is in the building I would have picked literally anywhere else to live.
