Areas to consider in Edinburgh

Edinburgh has many different areas that are worth considering when choosing where to live, including:

The City Centre – always a good option because there are plenty of shops and restaurants to choose from as well as easy access to public transport links.

Leith – has properties with a lot of character, excellent travel links to the rest of Edinburgh and is an up-and-coming area to look out for. Leith is also famous for its fantastic marina and being a hub for Edinburgh’s nightlife.

Prestonfield –  boasts stunning views over Edinburgh Castle across open countryside and is home to the oldest house in Edinburgh, Prestonfield House. This area is becoming increasingly popular for families and professionals alike due to its proximity to the city centre. It is also home to a number of good schools, making it an attractive area if you are looking at property with children in mind or have young family members.

Grange – has a village-like feel and some of the best local amenities within easy reach; it’s more affordable than other areas but still offers excellent access to public transport links and short commutes into the town centre. The Grange is a good option for those looking to settle down in Edinburgh, as the area has excellent local amenities and transport links are also convenient. It can be found north of The City Centre on the other side of Holyrood Park.

Morningside – provides excellent commuter links into the city centre but also benefits from being just minutes away from Bruntsfield Links golf course which hosts international tournaments every year. The area has beautiful Victorian properties which are typically family homes due to their size and there are also excellent local schools in the vicinity should you be looking for somewhere to raise a family.

Transport links in Edinburgh

As you might expect from Scotland’s capital, Edinburgh has excellent transport links. The city’s airport is the main regional hub for Lothian and Edinburgh. You can also find a few international flights from here each day too, so if you’re looking to travel abroad, this could well be your best option.

Then there are the railways which run throughout Scotland in general but have been significantly improved by both Network Rail and ScotRail over recent years – plus it has never been easier or cheaper to get cheap train tickets when planning ahead online with our website!

The cheapest way around Edinburgh might just be on foot where you’ll no doubt stumble upon some hidden gems along the way that will add up together to make one great experience of living in this lovely capital city.

Edinburgh Castle

What is there to do in Edinburgh?

Much like any capital city, Edinburgh has a lot to offer its residents and visitors alike. The major attractions like Edinburgh Castle, National Museum of Scotland or the Royal Yacht Britannia might be great places to visit but you could also consider checking out some local galleries such as the Scottish Portrait Gallery or pop into one of the many museums dotted throughout the city for an educational experience that is sure to satisfy your inner history buff!

If you love art and literature then make sure not to miss visiting the Writers’ Museum which will give you an insight into how writers work while taking in their surroundings at home.

If nature is more your thing then there’s no shortage of parks in Edinburgh, or if you are feeling even more adventurous,  you can go for a trip out of town and explore some of the many forests that dot the wild and ancient Scottish countryside.

Conveniently located well designed flat

Location is great, just a short walk from Leith Walk which has many options for food, drinks, grocery shopping and in general, conveniently located close to the city + transport links. You are able to hear road traffic but the roads are not particularly busy so it’s not very noisy.

Please review your development:

The layout of the flat is clever and sleek, a really great use of the space. The high ceilings and large windows are really nice and bring in great natural light.

Property management and facilities are responsive to issue and enquiries, offering support when it’s required.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

The building is calm and quiet, tenants and everyone working in the building are respectful of each other which makes it a peaceful place to live.

Limited kitchenware comes with the flat (I only got a saucepan) so I had to purchase a few bits (pot, frypan, chopping knives, cooking utensils etc.) which took time to pick up/have delivered. Not really an issue but would’ve been helpful to know further in advance so that I could’ve been better prepared as the inventory list was only sent to me the day before my arrival.

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

The team have been quick at responding to issues that I’ve had with the flat.

The area is really convenient. Walking distance to both Edinburgh’s city centre and Leith as well.
Three bus lines serve the development, so it’s very easy to commute to anywhere. All kinds of shops, bars and restaurants are also stones thrown.

Please review your development:

Kingsford Residence is a really modern development offering really great amenities to its tenants. From the well equipped gym, to a nice co-working area (with free coffee and tea) and a beautiful lounge with TV and printer.
But the highlight has to be the rooftop terrace with fantastic views of Edinburgh’s skyline. From there it’s possible to see Arthur’s Seat, Calton Hill and Edinburgh Castle, amongst others.

And the best part: is pet friendly!

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

We were promised double glazed windows in our flat, but it never happened.

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

Yes, everytime we needed something to be done, the building management looked after us.

The local area has great pubs, restaurants and cafe’s, as well as St Mark’s park and the Water of Leith just across the road. There are three supermarkets within 10 mins walk, and the tram line is also a 10 min walk. The street is very peaceful for the most part, but some noise to be expected given the proximity to the primary school.

Please review your development:

Every area of the building is beautifully designed. The roof terrace and gym are particular highlights. The apartments are well thought out, with excellent space saving details, and feel a lot larger than they actually are due to the high ceilings and large windows. Building management are so friendly and helpful, and it makes such a huge difference to the renting experience.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

The welcome pack and tour provided gave plenty of information prior to moving in.

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

All issues (very few) have been handled effectively and efficiently.
